In 2007 I earned NARI's Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler (CKBR) designation, following 30 hours of classroom work over a 10- week period with much independent study. The CKBR program covers 20 Kitchen and Bath remodeling task areas, including evaluation of existing rooms and needs, design and planning including detailed National Kitchen and Bath Association guidelines, CAD system work, lighting, estimating, layout, demolition, materials, cabinets and countertops, installation processes, all pertinent building codes and regulations, business methods and practices, NARI’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics for Remodelers, plus very detailed sections on each of the trades involved: rough and finish carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, plastering, flooring, and painting. The 6-hour final exam assessed knowledge and skills in these areas.
From an excellent January 2009 article on the subject of non-remodelers moving into remodeling, by Shawn Knoch: "For the first time in awhile, we are in a recession, and the construction industry started feeling the pain early last year. New home building has slowed tremendously. This has prompted many new home builders and specialty contractors to jump into the remodeling game. But can non-remodelers really be good remodeling contractors?" Read Shawn's entire article here.

Four Corners Remodeling is run by Chuck Green. For 18 years I have been an active member of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), a group dedicated to raising the level of professionalism in the industry. I have taken many courses, attended seminars, training and monthly meetings with the very high level eastern Massachusetts chapter of NARI (EM-NARI). I've earned 3 major certifications with NARI: Certified Remodeler (CR) Certified Lead Carpenter (CLC) and most recently Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler (CKBR), described below. In 2010 I will take NARI's Green Certified Professional certification program.
